12 Weeks...

I officially returned to work on Monday. It has been an adjustment after spending 12 weeks with a newborn. The transition has not been as hard as I expected. Brase is sleeping through the night (7 hours). That has been a wonderful gift!

Jose, my partner, is now home with a our little bundle. He is taking his leave and will return to teaching when school resumes in the fall. Fast forward... that will bring us to September 2010 and Brase will be 8 months old.

We are still unsure what will transpire in September. Our plan is to use infant care outside the home. We have a confirmed space in a wonderful school. Actually, it's a fantastic facility and was our first choice in regards to child care. This is the plan but we have come to realize that plans do not always work out.

We have also come to realize that we are fortunate. We are individually receiving 12 weeks of paid leave. That is a wonderful benefit that most families are not afforded.

We currently are taking one day at a time. We're still a little unsure if one of us will stay home. In the coming months we will decide what is best for Brase. As for now... we're enjoying every precious minute we have with our little boy.

Gypsy Travelers...

Lots of adventures. Seven days, five stops, two dogs, one Daddy, one Papi' and one little boy. Oh... and lots and lots of luggage! We moved from hotel to hotel like gypsy travelers.

Our road trip centered around visits with family and friends all over the great state of Texas. We toured museums, shopped, sat by lakes, dined out and enjoyed lots of wonderful conversations. Thanks again for the the lunches that were hosted in our honor.

Our little bundle of joy thrived as he was constantly held and kissed by everyone. Brase enjoyed sleeping in the big bed and survived all 1200 miles of the journey.

Pictured above is Brase and my God Mother, Jeannie. I treasure this picture!

Kiss Me... I'm Irish!!

Brase is a little Irish and it's coming through in the red under tone of his hair. This thrills me because I'm alot Irish!

May Patron Saint Patrick smile upon you and your day be filled with The Luck of the Irish!

Dinner out!

Brase always falls a sleep when in a noisy restaurant. The loud rumble of voices and music puts him in a coma! This is how we get our little one to wake up, eat and burp.

Cries of joy...

Half awake and more than a little grouchy I sat rocking my baby. It was time for his early morning bottle. The 3:00 AM bottle to be exact! This is the hour I dread. He is gassy, sleepy, hungry and cranky. I don't know who hates this feeding worse him or me.

That's when it all came into focus. I adjusted my glasses as I consoled him. His tiny toes were peeking out from under his blanket. They weren't the same little toes I gazed at and counted in the hospital nursery. They were longer than I remembered. It seemed that the little numbs had grown overnight. Every digit was recognizable.

That moment made my entire world stop. It turned his endless screams into joyful noise. The noise of a baby... my baby. The noise I will only experience once in a life time. In that split second I realized that this time will pass quickly. I acknowledged that I need to treasure every minute of this experience before it's lost forever. There will be good days and bad ones but all his cries are joyful ones.

I love to dress Brase in little boy rompers!

An Olive Branch

There was a lonely olive tree setting in the corner of the florist shop. A sign of peace and symbolic of the storm that passed with the birth of our son. I purchased the tiny tree and gave it a prominent place in our home. This is the passage I later read, "And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: So Noah knew that the waters were abated from the earth." Genesis 8:11

Monday was full of activity. I maintained Brase's feeding schedule, changed diapers, and ensured our home was in perfect order. In addition, I visited our favorite bakery, florist and personally made tea sandwiches. This was judgment day! Actually, it was our 1st post placement visit with our social worker.

The 1 hour meeting quickly passed into a 3 hour visit. The 3 of us got lost in our conversation. The visit went well and the social worker acknowledged that everything was on track. We should be able to consummate our adoption in early July.

By the Grace of God we have been given a son. Our adoption journey has not been easy but worth all the tears and heart ache along the way. We have lived a lifetime within the last 16 months. We feel very grateful for all that we have been given and all that we have learned along the way. This experience has made us acknowledge all the little signs that surround us. As for the olive tree... it's just another reminder of the joy we have found at the end of our adoption journey.
